Hello again

Hiya, I'm back. It's gone midnight so I'll only write a few words. I've just been reading through your comments on the Blackpool post. Sorry I only put short descriptions to the photo's but the light was fading and by the time I finished I couldn't see the keyboard. I had a good nights sleep in the tent, that was probably because I walked such a long way.

I must just add that I was not impressed with Blackpool at all. I haven't been for a few years and thought it would make an interesting contrast to add it to a walking trip. I wish I hadn't bothered.

Hi Jane and Chris, I went to Pride in London a few years ago, it was fantastic. I loved the way everyone dressed up, they really went to town on the glamour. I thought this one would have been the same. It was held at the bottom end of North Pier, loads of security staff at the entrance, and you had to buy a ticket from the nearby Merrie England bar to get in. I didn't bother to look how much it was, so I just hung around for a while to get the tram pictures, and watched people going in. There was no glamour, just cheap and tacky.

That's a good idea about pensioners able to get on the Pleasure Beach free, Christy. Maybe I'll email them to tell them how disappointed I was.

The whole of the Tower building looks scruffy, in fact I would go as far as saying it looks derelict. It looks like the whole job of refurbishment will take years.

Blackpool is not for families any more, it's for teenagers and young adults to drink themselves into oblivion, and get out of their heads on drugs. You see them everywhere, numerous stag and hen parties, girls wearing hardly any clothes, how they manage to keep warm I'll never know. OMG I'm sounding like my mother.

I'm off to bed, catch you later. You'll like the Kettlewell pics. Sorry I couldn't post them while I was there, I need to top up the dongle, ha ha.

  1. I was born in Blackpool and it is a truly horrendous town nowadays. I was brought up in near by Lytham though, a much nicer option for a few nights away. nice to see the pictures though, a trip down memory lane!

  2. Had been holidaying in the Lake District a while ago and we did think about going to Blackpool but decided against it. With all the stag and hen parties and people drinking themselves into oblivion, it sounds like my idea of hell. It's such a shame it's gone downhill. I do find though that once you've been somewhere nice, once you go back a couple of times it's just never the same as it was the first time, in my experience anyway. Yes, email them and see if you get any response from them, it'll be interesting to see what they say. I believe the £5 includes a bus ride and a show or something, perhaps they could allow a basic free wristband that would make it possible for you to have a wander round without going on anything. Hope you have a nice time in Kettlewell, can't wait to see the pictures. Fingers crossed the weather is nice. Take care, safe journey. x

  3. I entirely agree with your comments about Blackpool. I can't stand it when you go somewhere and there are all these parties of hen and stag variety, all shouting above the other and yes, hardly any clothes, even in the winter. They're not all young either. I think I sound a bit like my mother sometimes, but hopefully not quite so bad! (Do you know, next door to her has had washing out on the line for THREE DAYS?!!! Shock horror!)

  4. I really look forward to your Kettlewell photos. We cycled around there when I was a child, me on the back of my Dad's tandem. I remember the lovely bleak scenery and the villages and the little cottages where we used to stay for B & B.

  5. When we were up in Aberdeen last, there was a group of girls seemingly walking up the street in their underwear. It was September.
My son says socialising now seems to be ,go out,get drunk and fall about, throw up . Wake up next day and regret it.
We don't tend to go out in the evenings here(kent) because you must walk past crowds of youths who have lost all inhibitions. That is apparently known as 'Night life'.

  6. I went to Blackpool a number of years ago and it seems it has changed quite dramatically since then, what a shame, it was a great place for a family holiday x

  8. I couldn't understand why you went to Blackpool in the first place, it seems very out of character to your normal nice outings!

  9. Curiosity Sue G, I used to live there. I left home at 18 and got a bedsit and worked on the Pleasure Beach selling hot dogs and donuts. I had the time of my life there, loved the buzz though I always said Blackpool was better in the winter. I have only been back a couple of times and I wondered how it has changed. Now I know. Also as it is out on a limb I thought I would combine it with a trip to Yorkshire to get the most out of the journey. Do a circular rather than there and back.
